The Selkirk has a tendency to be kind, patient, and tolerant, in keeping with his parent breeds. He enjoys playing and cuddling, but he isn't overly busy or needy enough to tire you out. Fortunately, he is gregarious, since everyone he encounters wants to stroke his unique coat. This is a kind cat that shows concern for his owners. He gets along nicely with both cats and dogs as long as the kids treat him with respect. The Selkirk is frequently said to as clownish and has a funny side. He enjoys being cuddled up on your lap and will engage in hushed conversation if you speak with him. He doesn't bother you by constantly demanding attention, but he won't be content if he's neglected or left alone a lot.Despite his easygoing demeanor, the Selkirk is intelligent. When he learns to open cabinets and doors in quest of a reward or toy, don't be alarmed. Teach him tricks and give him puzzle toys that, after he figures out how to operate them, will reward him with treats or kibble, challenging his intellect and keeping him engaged in life.
